This talk is the second in the Music and Culture (RUG x ESNS) series, and will feature Sherlock Telgt (of Culture Capsule) in conversation with Skits (of Dope D.O.D). In 2013, Skits’ collective won the European Border Breakers Award (now called MusicMovesEurope), for their album Branded. Dope D.O.D have had a highly successful international performance career, supporting Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill and even Coldplay.
The conversation between Sherlock Telgt and Skits will focus on hip-hop in the Netherlands, the entrepreneurial means necessary to ensure longevity as a musician today, and the importance of place – with Groningen remaining vital to their practice, Dope D.O.D having recently launched their new album Multiverse at EM2.
This event will have a Q&A, and attendance is free and open to the general public.
Music & Culture Talks is a collaboration with the Popular Music and Sonic Cultures Master’s program and University of Groningen Institute for the Study of Culture (ICOG) and ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag). This particular event is also tied to the forthcoming European Hip Hop Studies Network’s Conference at the Groninger Museum from March 18–21.
